On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever went into Texas and defeated Arike Ogunbowale and the Dallas Wings 100-93. For the first time in over five years, the Fever have a winning record, sitting at 17-16.
Caitlin Clark came to play once again, tallying 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting, four rebounds and 12 assists.
Women’s basketball legend Nancy Lieberman, who played in the WNBA at the age of 50, called the game on NBA TV. She replaced Sheryl Swoopes, who was originally supposed to commentate.
“By far, she’s going to be the rookie of the year,” Lieberman said. “She’s in the MVP conversation.”
Clark has certainly made a case for WNBA MVP, but the award will likely go to Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 27 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
However, many WNBA fans did not agree with Lieberman’s take on Clark, taking to social media to voice their opinions.
“Ok Nancy please….enough. The MVP is A’ja’s. And Phee is second. But there is no MVP convo after A’ja and to the extent that there is, it’s Phee and no one else.”
“nancy lieberman is CRAZY for suggesting CC should get MVP votes”
“And you have Nancy Lieberman talking about someone else could be the MVP GTFOH”
“caitlin is absolutely not in the MVP conversation. nancy, please.”
“Just give her the MVP already mfs saying ‘caitlin Clark'”
“Catlin Clark isn’t in the MVP conversation. But she definitely deserves ROTY.”
With her performance in August, Clark has become the clear favorite to win Rookie of the Year over Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, who has seen her team drop six consecutive games. Indiana has gone 6-1 since the WNBA’s return from the Olympic break and is looking like one of the more dangerous teams in the league, with Clark leading the charge.
