Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides has compared Caitlin Clark to one of the greatest to ever play in the WNBA.
After Clark made history by becoming the first rookie to ever record a triple-double in an 83-78 win over the New York Liberty, Sides revealed she sees signs that Clark could be one of the best in the game.
Sides also decided to make the case for Clark being Rookie of the Year – which should be a fiercely competitive race as the season progresses.
‘I’m always going to make a case for my players. First and foremost, she is the most competitive human being I’ve ever met,’ Sides said before adding, ‘I really compare her to Diana Taurasi.
‘She’s always looking to find ways to get better. ‘How can I help the team? What can we do?’ … But she just wants to win.
Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark was compared to one of the WNBA’s best, Diana Taurasi
Fever head coach Christie Sides believes that Clark has the same attitude that Taurasi has
‘She just wants to win and to me, she’s going to be my [WNBA] Rookie of the Year every day — every day.’
Clark has been having a strong run this season with the Fever – her first in the WNBA since leading Iowa to the national championship game two years in a row.
It was in the second of those two title games, Taurasi – speaking on ESPN – said that ‘reality is coming’ for Clark when she entered the league.
In a way, that was true. Clark is leading the league in just one category: turnovers, where she’s set to break the record for the most by anyone in a season in just a matter of a few games.
But that’s really the one mark that people point to and hold against the Fever rookie. She’s top-20 in scoring in the league, top-five in assists, and top-ten in 3-point shooting.
The only question is if that’s enough to keep her ahead of Chicago Sky center and on-court rival Angel Reese.
Reese has been dominating in Chicago and just recently broke the record for the most consecutive double-doubles of anyone in the league’s history.
