Yet again, Taylor Swift rules the Billboard 200 with The Tortured Poets Department. The full-length has turned out to be not just another longstanding winner for the singer, but one of the longest-running leaders in many years—and the most successful of her career.
The Tortured Poets Department has now ruled the Billboard 200 for 11 weeks. The set debuted at No. 1 on the tally with one of the largest opening sums in U.S. history this spring. Since then, it has refused to cede control over the highest rung on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country.
With 11 weeks at No. 1, The Tortured Poets Department is now tied as Swift’s longest-running champion on the Billboard 200. Her albums Fearless and 1989 both managed the same run in first place on the tally, and the three efforts share the honor of being her titles with the most frames spent in charge of the competitive roster.
In the past tracking period, The Tortured Poets Department moved another 114,000 equivalent units, according to Billboard. That’s the kind of performance that most bands and singers dream of for the first week of a new, heavily-promoted set. The fact that Swift can manage it after months on the chart is yet another show of dominance and unrivaled popularity from the superstar.
That sum is actually down slightly from the week prior, but that’s to be expected for any album that’s been living on the Billboard 200 for several frames. Streams are still largely powering The Tortured Poets Department, as its 31 tracks rack up more than 100 million plays regularly—including last time around.
While activity on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music are largely to thank for the 11 weeks that The Tortured Poets Department has spent ruling the Billboard 200, the project is also still selling well. It holds at No. 1 on the chart with another 35,000 purchases. That’s enough for the bestseller to spend a fifth frame in charge of the Top Album Sales chart this frame.
At the moment, it doesn’t look like Swift faces any serious competition for the throne on the Billboard 200. There’s a great chance that The Tortured Poets Department will earn a twelfth turn at No. 1 once Billboard refreshes its rosters in a week. In doing so, it will immediately become her longest-running champion, and it will make history once again in several ways.
