(PLO) – Three Taylor Swift performances in Vienna (Austria) were canceled after police arrested two suspects on charges of planning a terrorist attack.

On August 7, three performances by American singer Taylor Swift scheduled to take place in the Austrian capital Vienna this week were canceled, after the Austrian government confirmed an attack had been planned at the Ernst Happel Stadium – the venue of the event. according to Reuters news agency.

Austrian police had earlier arrested two people suspected of plotting to attack Taylor Swift’s performances. One suspect, an Austrian citizen, is believed to have pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.

Franz Ruf, Director General of Public Security of the Austrian Ministry of the Interior, said: “During the investigation, we identified preparatory actions and noted that the 19-year-old suspect was particularly focused on Taylor Swift’s performance in Vienna (Austria).”

Police have searched the whereabouts of one of the suspects in the Austrian town of Ternitz and are analyzing household items. Local media quoted police sources as saying that there are still three other suspects at large.

Reuters quoted Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer as writing on the social media platform X: “Thanks to the close cooperation of our police and the General Directorate of Security and Intelligence with foreign agencies, the threat was identified early and the tragedy was prevented.”

Barracuda.music, the organiser of Taylor Swift’s show, said in an Instagram post: “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium (Austria), we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled performances for everyone’s safety.”

Taylor Swift’s three performances are scheduled to take place from August 8 to 10 and are part of the American singer’s Eras Tour. According to Reuters, police have predicted about 65,000 people will attend each performance, as well as up to 15,000 people will gather outside the stadium.
