Caitlin Clark’s pursuit of Ticha Penicheiro’s rookie record of 225 assists is certainly impressive and indicative of her playmaking abilities early in her career. Achieving such a milestone would underscore her impact as a distributor on the court, showcasing her ability to set up teammates effectively.

Records like these highlight not only a player’s individual talent but also their ability to adapt and succeed at the highest levels of competition. It’ll be exciting to see if Caitlin Clark can surpass this record and continue to make her mark in the WNBA. Keep an eye on her progress!

Doing some math, she’s now up to 8.19 APG. At that pace over the next 14 games she would break the single season record currently at 316 set by Alyssa Thomas just last season. That’d work out to 327 if she kept that exact pace plus her current 223. Also assumes Thomas herself doesn’t pass Clark along on the way.

It won’t be that close and Thomas has almost no chance of catching up now.

Clark’s current average doesn’t tell the tale. She was at a paltry 6.6 her first month and barely into 7.0+ territory in June. She was at 11.2 before tonight for the month of July. She’s making marked improvement as the season continues and considering she just played the single toughest schedule in the league, that’s saying something. She will continue to build on her experience and face a far easier set of opponents (like tonight).

She’s going to demolish the overall record. I’m betting she’s got 140-145 left in her for after the break. I’d peg her around 340 assists for the season.
