Sides’ take on Clark’s controversial tech will surprise many fans.

Indiana Fever Head Coach Christie Sides has taken her fair share of criticism for the Fever’s losing record this season.

On Sunday, Sides’ team vanquished the Seattle Storm in a 92-75 win that saw Fever rookie Caitlin Clark pile up 23 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

The Fever are now in the driver’s seat for a WNBA playoff spot despite their 13-15 record, a testament to Sides’ team’s perseverance.

Sides spoke at the Fever’s post-game press conference about a controversial technical foul that was given to Clark after she punched the basketball stanchion at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in frustration.

She noted that Clark was not given a technical foul previously after taking her frustrations out on a stanchion and shared her thoughts on her star player’s unbridled show of emotion.

“I wanted our coaches to find what exactly happened,” Sides said. “I didn’t see what she did to get that. She was frustrated and she hit the pad on the rim, I mean she’s done that several times and we’ve never…I don’t think she’s been teed up for that.

“So, you know, I’m not, (if) that’s the way she gets her frustration out I have absolutely no problem with that, it didn’t affect anybody, it wasn’t towards anything.

“So we just have to be consistent on that call, I mean, that hadn’t been a technical on her before.”
