Police have still not confirmed or denied that they have made arrests in connection with the murders of rapper AKA and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
FIVE SUSPECTS TAKEN IN FOR QUESTIONING
When IOL broke the news on Sunday, 26 March, Western Cape police spokesperson Colonel André Traut said that AKA’s murder is a KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) case therefore police in that province should be contacted.
However, when KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda was contacted, he said: “We have not received any update on the AKA case. We will update the public.”
On Monday, Netwerk24 reported that KZN detectives took three of the suspects into custody at the Erica Square shopping centre in Belhar on Sunday. Two other suspects were arrested in the same area.
AKA — real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes — and Tibz were murdered in cold blood on 10 February in Durban when two gunmen opened fire outside Wish on Florida restaurant.

HOW DID POLICE FIND AKA AND TIBZ’S ALLEGED MURDERERS?
According to Netwerk24, police had been trailing the suspects for weeks. They found DNA and fingerprints from a deserted getaway vehicle discovered in Umlazi, KZN. One of the DNAs was allegedly linked to a taxi-industry hitman from Empangeni who reportedly has a string of crimes.
To find the notorious hitman, police posed as Sassa agents offering to help people register for grants, which is how they established that he was already in Cape Town together with his alleged accomplices.
