Musician Nadia Nakai and AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes are holding on tight to each other while his father, Tony Forbes, who is the spitting image of his son, gives an update to the media.
Dressed in all black, with a doek and sunglasses while tightly clasping hands with his AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes, Nadia couldn’t hold back her tears while Tony gave out details of the memorial service.
AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, was killed outside a Durban eatery on Florida Road with his long-time friend, Tebello Tibz Motsoane.
Addressing media in a soft voice at Rockets, Tony extended his condolences to the Motsoane family who lost their son Tibz, “who has been a good friend to AKA from the beginning until the end”.
He also condemned the speculation about his friends.
There have been rumours and theories that his friends were involved in the shooting, which he condemned.
As a family, they support his friends, he says.
He gave details of the memorial service, which will be held on Friday, 17 February at the Sandton Convention Centre.
“It’s our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted throughout his music [career]. His memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online.”
He thanked the nation for their love and support during this trying time.
While he was talking, Nadia and Lynn collapsed into each other’s arms weeping.
