Angel Reese had one of the greatest rookie campaigns in WNBA history, breaking numerous rebounding records, including the league’s single-season rebounding record, in just her first season. Reese’s interests run deeper than the court, though, as the Chicago Sky star has numerous outlets outside of her basketball career.
Besides clothing, Reese has also expressed her profound interest in music, recently discussing her admiration for Usher. On Thursday’s episode of Reese’s podcast, Unapologetically Angel, the Sky forward discussed her love for the multi-platinum recording artist.
“I love Usher,” Reese said (37:33 mark). “I don’t want him putting cherries in my mouth. You know, I didn’t even want to sing into the mic. I was like, ‘No. I don’t want to do it.’ I was a little scared.”
Reese also discussed her time at Usher’s concert in Los Angeles back on September 26 during the show, expressing nervousness when the singer invited her to sing.
Reese also prefaced that while she loves Usher and his music, she didn’t want to sing during the event.
Angel Reese discusses Chicago Sky firing head coach Teresa Weatherspoon
Upon concluding her rookie season, Angel Reese was “heartbroken” to hear the news that her head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, had been fired by Chicago’s front office. Reese posted an emotional tweet to X regarding the decision.
Reese didn’t feel the firing of Weatherspoon was deserved, as the Sky elected to move on from the coach after just one season. Reese’s goodbye to Weatherspoon raised concerns among fans, given the rookie phenom disagreed with the decision.
In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Reese stated, “I can’t imagine playing for the Sky without [Teresa Weatherspoon]. She’s the one reason I wanted to come here.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca broke the silence regarding Reese’s reaction to the decision to fire Weatherspoon after one year. Pagliocca stated that the team’s relationship with Reese is in a “good spot”. He added that “emotions were high” for Reese after hearing the news.
Chicago will begin its search for the ninth head coach in Sky history this offseason.
