Indiana Fever Make Major Kelsey Mitchell Announcement After Aces Loss

Caitlin Clark stole the show on Friday: The Indiana Fever rookie sensation set a WNBA record for the most assists in a single season.

It wasn’t just Clark who made waves in Indiana’s 78-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces, though. Her backcourt partner, two-time All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, also made history in the game.

Mitchell set the mark for the most points in a single season in Fever franchise history. The veteran dropped a team-high 20 points against the Aces to give her 733 on the season. The 5-foot-8 guard shattered her own record.

Unfortunately for Mitchell (and Clark), her historic evening came in a loss to the two-time defending champions Aces. The loss was Indiana’s second in three days to Las Vegas, which won, 86-75, on Wednesday.

This loss drops the Fever to 19-19. They are sixth in the league’s overall standings, 1 1/2 games ahead of seventh-place Phoenix Mercury with two games remaining in the regular season.

Mitchell, Clark and the rest of the squad return to action on Sunday to host the Dallas Wings for their last regular-season home game at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
