Aside from Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever roster boasts plenty of young talents, including third-year guard Lexie Hull. The Fever selected Hull with the sixth pick in the 2022 WNBA draft, and she has since been a steady presence on the team as a defender and a developing floor-spacer.

Off the court, the young WNBA guard is dating Will Matthiessen, who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB. The couple graduated from Stanford University. According to Matthiessen’s latest Instagram post, which was made 15 weeks ago, the couple has been together for four years.

Baseball-Reference lists Matthiessen as a first baseman, designated hitter and relief pitcher.

In college, he had a batting average of .305. He had 91 hits, 75 RBIs and 19 home runs. He was selected by the Pirates in the sixth round in 2019 (184th overall).

While playing for the Stanford Cardinal, Matthiessen received several honors. He was a finalist for the John Olerud Award in 2019. He was part of ABCA’s 2019 All-America third team and received a 2019 All-America honorable mention by Perfect Game/Rawlings.

In his MLB career, he had 197 hits, 157 RBIs and 129 runs scored for a batting average of .228. Additionally, he hit 33 home runs.

Matthiessen was born in Tualatin, a city in Oregon. According to his university bio, he has an older sister, Hannah, and a younger sister, Claire. His grandmother was the top-ranked tennis player in her age group, while his grandfather played soccer and rugby at Yale. His hobbies include fishing, skiing, tennis, ping pong, hiking and golf.

He turned 26 this January. But despite his young age, he decided to retire in March. According to his LinkedIn page, he is transitioning to a career in finance and investing. Matthiessen is a venture associate at Commonwealth Impact Investing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Lexie Hull registers career performance against Seattle Storm

While Lexie Hull is a solid defender, she has shown she can contribute on the offensive end. However, this is still a developing aspect of her game, and she has yet to establish herself as a legitimate scoring threat.

Against the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Hull went off for a career-high 22 points.

Her three-point shooting was a key factor for the Fever as she registered a hot 6-for-7 shooting clip from downtown. In total, Hull was 8-for-10 from the field. Her contributions allowed the Fever to secure a 17-point victory (92-75).

Prior to this game, Lexie Hull had only reached the 20-point mark one other time in her professional career. This was in July 2023, wherein she scored 20 on a 7-for-11 shooting clip from the field, including 3-for-6 from downtown.

This season, Hull had only registered double-figure scoring in two other games, a 12-point outing in a loss to the Las Vegas Aces on May 25 and a 10-point performance in a loss to the Connecticut Sun on Jun. 10.

Hull is averaging 3.7 points on a career-best 31.4% from beyond the arc. She has mainly come off the bench and has only started in one game this year for the Indiana Fever.
