Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington was fired up during Wednesday’s game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Carrington relentlessly defended Clark throughout the game, delivering an impressive display of on-ball defense against the leading Rookie of the Year contender. Despite the 26-year-old’s valiant effort, the Sun fell short in an 84-80 loss at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.Soon after the game concluded, Carrington took to X (formerly Twitter) and launched an attack at the Indiana Fever fans.

“The indiana fever have the nastiest fans in the W. ew,” the Sun guard wrote.

The 26-year-old expressed her frustration after performing the “silencer celebration” and engaging in a verbal exchange with Clark during the game. With 4:03 remaining in the third quarter, the Fever rookie executed her signature step-back move to create space from Carrington and drained a 3-pointer. Hyped up, the 22-year-old energized the crowd as she sprinted back on defense.

On the very next possession, Carrington responded with a 3-pointer of her own and followed it up with the “silencer celebration.”

With 34 seconds left in the quarter, Carrington played suffocating defense on Clark, leading to both players diving to the floor to secure the ball. As the official signaled a jump ball, the two players exchanged words while still on the floor.

While Carrington was vexed at Indiana’s fanbase, Clark voiced a heartfelt appreciation for fans in the post-game press conference.

“I’m proud of our group,” Clark said.
“I though we came in very motivated, very excited for this game. I thought our crowd was honestly incredible. They were really into the game, that certainly helps us a lot, especially when you need a big stop there at the end. Like that’s huge.

“It feels like there is another defender on the court and I’m just really thankful for that. And even though we didn’t score a ton of points in the fourth (quarter) like it was our defense…and our rebounding,” she added.
