Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark responds to Taylor Swift endorsing Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is one of the most popular athletes in the nation. After becoming the NCAA’s all-time scorer and entering the WNBA as the No. 1 overall pick, the spotlight on Clark grew even brighter.
While Clark’s entrance to the big leagues was met with unprecedented hype, her name also became weaponized by online pundits with hateful purposes. Considering the 22-year-old is a straight white woman from Iowa, assumptions were made about the rookie’s political allegiances.
Clark does her best to keep her focus on basketball and stay off social media, however, she couldn’t but react to singer Taylor Swift’s powerful message endorsing Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election on September 10.
Clark clicked “like” on Swift’s post. The 14-time Grammy winner was incredibly explicit in her message. She called out former President Donald Trump for “spreading misinformation,” and closed her post with dig at JD Vance, his vice-presidential candidate.
While Swift made her endorsement crystal clear, she also encouraged everyone to vote, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she wrote.
Clark never posts about politics on social media, however, her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery has showed support for Harris. In July, McCaffery posted Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign video on his Instagram Stories.
As for the Rookie of Year candidate, she condemned her name being used to attack other players in the WNBA when directly asked about the topic in June. “It’s disappointing,” Clark said.
“Everybody in our world deserves the same amount of respect. The women in our league deserve the same amount of respect. People should not be using my name to push those agendas. … It’s not acceptable.”
