Caitlin Clark had herself a night in the Indiana Fever’s nail-biter of a win over the Dallas Wings, 110-109, on Sept. 15 after exploding for a career-high 35 points.
The rookie sensation shot 10-of-22 from the field, including six three-pointers, and added eight assists and three steals.
The Fever bounced back from their loss to the Las Vegas Aces to improve to 20-19. They also got a huge lift from Kelsey Mitchell, who dropped 30 points. Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith likewise contributed, tallying 15 and eight points, respectively.
Connecticut Sun’s DiJonai Carrington acknowledged Smith’s performance on X. They were former teammates at Baylor.
“See what happens when my girl gets some touches,” said Carrington, who’s had intense battles with Clark and the Fever.
In a now-deleted tweet, which was screenshot and reposted on Reddit, Smith had a candid response.
“Fun while it lasted, babe,” she wrote, adding two laughing emojis.
The Fever forward shot 4-of-7 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds in 19 productive minutes. She has started 36 of their 39 games this season.
Prior to their win over the Wings, the 24-year-old Smith was averaging 10.5 points per game, a drop from her 15.5 tally in the 2023 season. With the arrival of Clark, Smith has gotten fewer scoring opportunities.
Still, the former No. 2 overall pick remains a key player for the Fever, who finally broke their seven-year playoff drought.
