They say all is fair in love and war, which means it’s okay to foul your significant other in a game if it’s the correct basketball play.
Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington and Indiana Fever forward NaLyssa Smith were teammates at Baylor and have been in a relationship, at least on-and-off, for a while now.
Last season, the two had a hilarious interaction on the court, when Smith fouled Carrington and appeared to hold on a little longer than one might expect.
The two addressed the foul during an Instagram Live session over the weekend.
“She ran straight through me. Dawg, she held on for like at least 10 seconds, it felt like,” Carrington said.
“She swears she didn’t do it on purpose. She was like, ‘I was just making sure you didn’t fall.’ Bro, the way that she wrapped them arms around, she damn near interlocked at the front,” Carrington continued.
“Carrington told Smith that “you dragged it” and asked her to “finally admit” it.
“How did I drag you? I hooked you up,” Smith said.
Both added that they knew “exactly” what they were doing.
Pretty funny. Interestingly, Carrington raised eyebrows earlier this season when she called out Smith’s teammate, rookie star Caitlin Clark, for not using her platform to speak out against those who were “weaponizing” her name to discriminate against others.
“Dawg. How one can not be bothered by their name being used to justify racism, bigotry, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia & the intersectionalities of them all is nuts,” Carrington wrote on X/Twitter at the time.
“We all see the s–t. We all have a platform. We all have a voice & they all hold weight. Silence is a luxury.”
