The Democratic National Convention is taking place in Chicago this week and a lot of people in the sports world, including Caitlin Clark and her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, have a reaction to it.
Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, spoke in Chicago on Tuesday evening. Kamala Harris, the Democratic pick for president in 2024, will be wrapping up the convention later this week. There have been several other notable guest speakers, including Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who taunted Donald Trump on Monday evening.
“I’ll be getting out every day to help people get out to vote on November 5 and elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the next President and Vice President of the United States,” Kerr told the crowd.
“After the results are tallied that night, we can, in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump, ‘Night, night!’”
Clark’s boyfriend, former Iowa hoops star Connor McCaffery, was among those to show his support for the Obamas. He’s made it clear over the years which way he leans politically and it’s to the left.
McCaffery, who played college hoops under his dad at Iowa, showed support for the Obamas on his social media account on Tuesday evening.
This was not the first time he’s done something like this.
The rest of the WNBA has appeared to agree with Clark, McCaffery and Co., as many are endorsing Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election.
“I think that’s a really important thing that our league has done through the years, using our voice as a vehicle for change, and I think no question that we would step to the plate in this scenario,” said Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve at the Olympics.
“I think it’s really important that we don’t go backwards as we’ve seen, some of the threats to basic human rights, the things that we care about in our league, and so I’m proud to stand with the players in this in backing Kamala Harris.”
NBA star Steph Curry is the same.
“Vice President Harris is primed to bring her energy to this campaign and hopefully she’s on the ticket winning the election but it’s a big deal to say the least,” Curry said, per ESPN. “She represents the Bay Area. She’s been a big supporter of us, so, I want to give that energy right back to her.”
