Caitlin Clark played the role of a proud girlfriend on Monday, September 16, after it was announced that her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, had officially been appointed as the new assistant coach for the Butler men’s basketball team.
It was initially reported on Thursday, September 12, that McCaffery was on the brink of securing the assistant coach post for the Bulldogs after former NBA first overall pick Greg Oden decided to resign from the same. On Sunday, Butler made the news official by announcing the arrival of McCaffrey, who has now left his role as a Basketball Development Coordinator for the Indiana Pacers, via their social media channels.
Clark caught wind of the big news, and she reacted by sharing the announcement on her own Instagram page with a caption that read, “yayy!! so happy for you 🤍.”

Caitlin Clark fans have taken notice of the news as well, and more than a few of them have said the same thing about this significant development.
“Does this mean CC is gonna come to games??” asked a supporter on Instagram.
Butler also posted the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, and it also generated the same type of comments about the Fever superstar.
“Butler enrollment going 🆙 when they see Caitlin sitting court side,” stated a user.
“CC about to make an ”I’m proud of you🖤” post I feel it coming,” reacted another.
“With Connor McCaffery officially joining Butler’s coaching staff, it feels like a great time to remind Caitlin Clark that she is invited to all Butler home games and we look forward to seeing her in Hinkle Fieldhouse this year #DawgsOnly,” read a tweet.
For what it’s worth, the WNBA season will not end later than October 20. Clark and the Fever could see their campaign end even sooner if they are not able to make it all the way to the WNBA Finals.
Incidentally, Butler kicked off their 2024-25 campaign during the WNBA offseason, which means that Clark will have more time on her hands to potentially attend games. At this point, it does seem that there’s a considerable chance that what the fans are saying about Caitlin’s supposed new-found fandom for Butler could come to fruition in the not-so-distant future.
